Well I took delivery of my LR3 on 15th and on the 22nd I got hit by a CRV. I figured since everyone had been so helpful with everything before the sale, I wanted to share the sad news. The CRV was stopped at a light in the middle lane of a 3 lane road. The lights were timed, so I moved to the right lane as I approached, as the light turned green, she decided to make a right hand turn. Right into my driver's side wheel, blowing the tire and breaking the idler arm (I think). Some how she bounced back and hit me again in the driver's door and shattered the glass. Its in the shop now waiting for parts.

Now we get to drive to Atlanta not in a brand new LR3 with Nav and DVD, but in a Ford Freestar Minivan.

At least I got to take it off road once before the accident.

At least she killed one of those &%*$& Wranglers!

I know how you feel, my first RR was a 91 classic. The very next morning after I bought it, I drove into work. Literally, I drove right into the building as the driveway was a complete sheet of ice. $3500 in damage, had to pay out of pocket due to insurance situation. Quite the buzzkill. My condolences.

Did the airbags deploy? Not sure if they should have, but looks like pretty good side impact damage. Just curious which bags, if any, came out.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

Sorry to hear what happened. If it were me, I'd probably be so ****** and strangle the lady in that CRV. Just curious, how badly damage was the CRV?

No airbags blew, each of us were going less than 15 mph when it happened. I think the girl kinda of panicked and hit the gas instead of the break which is how she hit me twice. It was as if she were trying to run me off the road. Through the whole thing it was easy to stay calm because I knew we were safe. The door damage may have been worse because after the first blow I was heading for a temporary light pole on the sidewalk, so I had to steer to avoid it back into my lane, which is when she hit me again. I think the impact woudl have had to be a lot harder for the airbags. And I'm sure that would add weeks to the repairs. The body shop is saying mid Jan.

The CRV had to be towed as well with a damaged passenger side wheel and side. She had borrowed her mom's car to show a friend the sites of DC while home for winter break.

JoelD,

That sucks! Sorry. I feel your pain. Since picking up my LR3, I've had the front windshield shattered by a rock on the freeway and also a side-impact collision (minor) that resulted in a replacement of the LARGE rear panel. btw I'm guessing the estimate at $4400. Am I close? Was she insured? May it be repaired soon so you can enjoy it once more......

She has Geico insurance, which I've heard is easy enough to deal with. I looked the truck over with the guy towing it and he said he thought the following would be replaced: idler arm, driver door and window, tire and wheel, and maybe a few other suspension parts. I meet with the adjuster today to get a formal estimate. I thought it would be best to meet him and be present at the estimate to make sure he catches everything.

Two things that I'm concerned with is that the door sill has a small tweak (indent) to it, and the front quarter panel seems to be pushed in a bit. I'm not sure how hard that will be to fix, it might run up the costs.

I'll report back the final estimate and we can see how close you are. Any other guesses out there? grommet, askewed or joey?

Make sure the interior is not damaged from broken glass. You dont want any little scratchs or tears in the leather or any of the plastics inside. I had an accident in my 2003 Acura and there was a small scratch on the radio from the air bags and I told them I wanted it fixed... they replaced the entire radio. You dont want any reminders of that accident. ---my 2 cents

Yea, it's nice to feel safe. About one month after I took delivery of my LR3, my family and I took a road trip from Colorado to San Diego. The first day in San Diego, we got rear-ended by a guy in an old Toyota pickup. We were stopped, he wasn't paying attention, and he plowed into us. No one was hurt, and we just felt a moderate bump.

I got out and looked at his pickup. His front bumper had fallen off, and his radiator was leaking. Oh no... my new car! The damage? Well, one of the reflectors in the bumper was cracked, as was the cover to the rear towing eye (which must have taken the majority of the impact). Nothing else was damaged.

The guy was very nice, and he felt really bad about hitting a new car with three kids in it. However, he was also very impressed by the lack of damage my car sustained (particularly in comparison to his car). In fact, he was so nice that I never sent him a bill for the $25 reflector. :)

Hmm. My guesstimate is revised upwards!
$5800..... When I got hit, I only had two small dings in the lower part of the rear quarter panel which they repaired (not replaced as I thought earlier), BUT they had to repaint the entire panel to blend it. Cost the poor bloke that hit me about $1800.
