95 Disco Soft Brakes

After about an hour of sitting in traffic my brakes began to get very soft. They wouldn't stay soft, but it would come and go after that until I let the car sit and then the brakes would go back to normal. This would only happen when I sat in traffic for about an hour. After speaking to a couple of mechanics, I had the master cylinder replaced and the brakes lines bleed. This didn't seem to help. I had the same problem yesterday while I was sitting in traffic.

Any ideas what I should try next?

sounds like either the Brake fluid is getting hot and allowing it to bubble (causing air pockets) or the ABS is acting up giving you a feel of the brakes having issues, when there is nothing wrong.

If the ABS is the issue, it will not give an ABS code all the time. If you remove the 30 amp fuse for the ABS pump under the hood, this will tell you if it is and ABS issue.

If in fact it is the brake fluid getting to hot, what is the cause of that and can i correct it?

If it is the brake fluid, then you need to find a way to get the under hood temp down.... I would say possible exhaust leak near the master cylinder may cause this issue... you can also check this, but opening the hood while having this issue and remove the master cylinder cover and look for bubble in the brake fluid.

Thanks for the help! You might be right about the brake fluid getting too hot. Both times the brakes got really soft the car was running very hot and if I didn't turn the heat on it probably would have overheated. I guess I better start working on the overheating problem next.
