Ashtray won't close

My wife has a 2006 LR3 and while driving it the other day I pulled out the ashtray instead of having it motor itself out. Who knew ? I drive a Model A that has no ashtray. Any how, now it won't close. If you push it in it just pops back out again. I'm in deep do-do. I can't be the only person to have ever done this. Anybody know how to get it to close and stay closed, besides glueing it ?

That's funny...just last week, I did the same thing, after 5 1/2 years. Going to have to figure out how to take it out to fix.

Try the forum search for "ashtray". There were several related threads recently. A fairly common issue, replacement part is a low cost item, but a bit of a PITA to remove.

One tip - I've read (on another forum) that there is a "non-smokers" version available. It replaces the lighter with a standard power outlet, and ashtray is replaced with a small cubby. Wish I did it when my ashtray spring broke last year, but found out too late about this alternate solution.

That happened to mine and luckily they agreed to fix it under warranty as it involved some pretty time consuming (for me) dis-assembly of the front dash to get to the part.

I did mine-was actually not too bad although a little intimidating-you need to pull the center console and the tray just under the ash tray drawer to get at one hidden fastener. You also need to remove the climate control panel as well-
