BEEEEEP when trying to lock diffs

Yesterday when I went to put my 98 disco into 4wheel high, a high pitch buzz/beep sound went off and it refused to lock the diffs. I put it into park while it was still buzzing and it stopped. I tried again and it worked fine every time after that. I am just curious what the sound meant...anyone know?

That buzzer is an alert that your transfercase is in neutral.

Yep. Put her in Neutral and engage your higher or lower gear and the sound will stop
