ANYONE? brakes, brakes, and more brakes

Hi all,
First off I want to say, Joey has been a huge help to me in the last couple of days. Taking my harassing phone calls well into the evening. He's awesome.
Last night we discussed brakes. I didn't have some of the details, and seeing as when I read previous posts here I think I'd like to put this out there too see what everyone else thinks.
First off I do get the stupid ABS chatter, and I intend to just yank the fuses and pull the light in the dash. The brakes don't pulsate, and as I've seen commented here before they do seem soft. I've been scared before I wasn't going to stop, but always have thankfully.
I'm driving a 97 Disco Series I. In may of 03, I bought calipers and rotors from a salvage yard off of a 97 Disco 37000 miles on them. I had them cleaned up (bead blasted) I don't believe the rotors were turned. I bought new accessories and new pads. The pads according to my mechanic have about 5000 miles left on them currently.
I'm going to flush the system, and change the pads.
My questions:
Should I put new rotors on, if currently they are running smooth?
Joey recommended, if I don't change the rotors, to just put the cheapest pads possible as I'll have to change the rotors anyway again in about 15000-25000miles - should I go with cheapest pads or buy a bit better? (and believe me I like Joey's plan the best as I've got to make some other improvements and the costs are starting to get up there - not that I want to chinse on my or my family's safety.)
Thanks everyone, I'm just looking for a consensus and if anyone has some web url's to throw my way for cost effectiveness, I'd sure appreciate it.
All the best,
Andrew

v.2

I just learned the rotors were cut on the vehicle. I'm a bit of a newbie to working on cars, so I kind of semiunderstand this. I've also been told this probably wasn't a good thing with Rover rotors, but honestly they've been running great. So my questions still stand thanks in advance for any input.

Hmmmm! FWIW, your brakes are what stops your truck from hitting something, and I'm a firm believer that you only get what you pay for. If the rotors are okay as you say, I'd go out and fit a good set of pads (not cheapies), then when you change out the rotors, fit another set of good pads, and do the economics thing somewhere else.

Thanks Roland, I didn't see that anyone responded here. I bought the standard replacments from Atlantic British...semimetallics, can't remember the brand as I'm gearing up with the a lot of parts for some serious work on my Rover in the coming weeks. They're not the most expensive, but certainly not the cheapest I could find. Although they are the cheapest I think AB has to offer. I'll do a flush, and give the whole set up about 15000 miles and then check/redo. I'll probably get 20-25 as I've been doing a lot more highway driving these days, but NYC can be rough on them. You have any recommendations on what brands you'd use? I do offroad also.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hey Roland, are you a chef?

Why is it I get the feeling you know me. I'm not a chef, but I do manufacture food.

We don't know each other, but I have seen your name before somewhere. I thought it had something to do with restaurant business, but I see, food manufacturing. Cool, what kind of stuff?
