NO REPLACEMENT FOR 3.9, 4.0 or 4.6 motors from dealers

Good thing to know you own a vehicle that you can not get a replacement short block for should you have a motor failure, it's not how but when. Rover dealers will not supply a shortblock for you even though by law parts should be available for a certain time period. I was told from a dealer the only source is a used wrecking yard motor. Better off locating Yugo motors. JMO's

wow, beemer, had some bad issues with the Rover, eh? But the points are valid, my coil pack failed--and quickly, after a a slight misfire it began to spark and deteriorate the whole female side of the pack...I ended up losing I would say at least one if not two cylinders for a little while there--got a replacement coil, and no problems-knock on wood-since. I am still pretty adament about the long term strength of these trucks, I dont know any one firsthand who has had an engine die personally. I have 120,000 miles and to me it runs good as new (a little loud and rough, with a little gurgliing sound when on the gas, but no big deal). I would get a D2 if I had a choice tho, they are much more comfortable and larger than the D1. But the D1 is easier to jury-rig and mickeymouse together IMHO.

I have a 95 with 4.6, cam, chip and 5-speed, yes a so called PITA distributor some one said that may need a rotor and cap change every 6 or 7 years, BFD, it can be adjusted with advance for power and mileage vs failing coils packs at high dollars the newer dizzy less Gems motors have. The newer Gem's motor Vehicles may have more cup holders which is more important than engine reliability when your in the bush, take a phone and extra water, you'll be found sometime.
Newer is new not better.
My response about GEMS was what some people call sarcastic. Maybe I should've put a little "winky" emoticon there?
