disco 97 transmission problem

I can shift from park ,the transmission was working fine ,no noise no sliping please advised ??

done chage fluid and filter

make sure the brake safty is disengaging - you can hear it if you listen close to the shifter and press the break (with vehicle on)
if not check the break pedal triggers
also make sure the linkage (under the truck on the passenger side of the tranny) is still connected... my cotter pin rusted out and I couldnt shift out of gear when my poped out... 37 cent fix!)
