Hi all!

I changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor on my 95 Disco yesterday.

After I changed them, when I started the Disco, it started fine and ran fine, but it shuddered a bit. It shuddered more if whenever I pressed on the gas. When I first started, it felt like the whole engine was rocking. But then it settled down. The idles are fine.

Does this mean that some cylinder(s) is not firing? How can I check and correct?

I have put in Bosch Platinum 4+s, Magnacore wires and genuine cap and rotor.

Appreciate all the input.

It is possible you passed a little carbon, how is it running now, did you get any check engine light?

No check engine lights. No other symptoms other than it seems like I have more power.

My old plugs were all black. Some of the plugs were wet around the threading, but not on the tips.

I was afraid that maybe I put in plugs that did not match what the engine needed. Could it have been that the Platinum 4+s are longer or something ( I did not check the length from what I had previously which was Champions)? Could longer plugs be detrimental to the engine?

Longer plugs could potentially get hit by the pistons... I hope not for you.

Do you remember what plug number was on the side of the plugs, I'll match it up to one of mine to make sure you have the right one.

4478 is the model number for the plugs, if I remember it correctly.

tcosson, now you are scaring me. If that was the case, how much trouble am I in? I am a pessimist, so thinking about the worse case scenario.

Don't worry about the length, you wouls hear a constant tapping and extremely rough running engine due to destroyed plugs. I'll check in the morning for the plug number, I know that was not the number from the side of my spark plugs, did you number come from the box or off the plug?

Yes, if it hit the pistons you'd know right away... I didn't read you post close enough. Sorry for the scare.

Mike,

That number was off the box. I came home very late tonite, so could not remove one of the plugs to give you the number off the plugs themselves.
