So i have a 2001 Discovery SE, i would like to use my iPod mini on my long commutes, Who is the manufacture of the stereo and/or the CD Changer? I am looking for a way to integrate the ipod's stereo output into an input on the stereo. I would rather not lose the Changer but don't really need it if i get this working. Any thoughts or suggestions????????????? Thanks

I have iTrip but i am looking to wire something up permanently that will give me better sound and not have to be turned up all the way.

The only thing I ever found out about was that you can loose the changer and you'll have to have someone help rig a converter. I heard the BMW one works good, but there are many others. I've been using the FM transmitter, and I'm happy. But the volume could stand a bump which sucks. Have to be honest and say since I got my iPod I've never used the CD Changer lol. My entire music life is now computer based. I've actually thought of being rid of it all, and getting a nice MP3 CD Deck with Amp and front & rear RCA inputs or something similar. It's future definitely.
Good luck.

Monster

Monster is making the iCruze and I believe they have one for the Disco stereos. If so, it's a little expensive but it gives you full integration with the stereo and there's an optional LCD panel to display songs and other info from the iPod.

Not sure on the BMW converter..

The iCruze is new to me...is it RCA input converted for the Disco?

iCruize

I honestly don't know how they're interfacing with it. I do know they say it's not an easy install so I'm guessing it's slightly involved. Now, that's not to say it's not a DIY project if you're handy with car stereos.

Wish I had more info for you. You can find information about it at http://www.monstercable.com/iCruze/default.asp (sorry, couldn't get the insert link button to work).

Bummer

That's a major bummer. What's it like to replace the stock LR stereo? If you can replace it with a new head unit you could get one with an input jack. I can't do this on my Saab because the computer is integrated with the stereo. The stereo sounds great so it's not a terribly big deal but I can't run anything through it that way.

It's just a thought...

I have had my iPod hooked up to my MINI since I bought the car. Recent BMW units have a CD changer interface which I was able to create a wire for an AUX / RCA port and install. Later BMW came out with their own AUX adapter and then a specific iPod interface but my home made one works fine.

When I finally get my Landy I would most probably just buy a new head unit. Alpine now has units & adaptors that can interface with the iPod and not only allow control from the headunit but also display the track info and include search functions.

Half the time the adaptors for specific OEM stereos cost more than just buying a new one :(
