Greetings from Boulder, Co.
I'm new to the LR3 world. Previous autos were a Saab 9-5 and an Audi allroad. I enjoy working and maintaining my cars and never have had an extended warranty.
We just bought a 06 LR3 with a factory extended warranty good for 2 more years or 25k. But the fine print says I must maintain the LR as specified in the owners manual.

Does anyone know if I change my own oil, serp belt, brakes etc and keep my parts reciept will that satisfy LR or am I stuck taking it to the dealer?

i'm dying to take it on a few local trails before winter any local groups of guys organized?

What's up, and welcome to the forum!

I'm from the area (Denver), and I'll go ahead and make the assumption that you bought your truck at Flatirons since you live up that way. I have bought several trucks from those folks, and regularly change my own oil, etc. They have never given me a hard time about it, and my current car (07 LR3 HSE) is also under the factory extended warranty. In the end, if you are cool with the service department people, you should be alright, but I can't speak for any of the other area dealers.

About getting out sometime soon...you should check out the Solihull Society, the local owners club. Next week (19th-23rd), the club is hosting the annual National Rally in Moab. If you can swing a few days off on short notice, I'd highly recommend going (you could even caravan with me; I'm leaving on Wednesday). I'd also be happy to head out with you one weekend.

Hope that helps, and enjoy your new LR3!

You really need to read the fine print. Extended warrenties are different then the factory warrenty. When I bought my lr3 it had an extended warrenty but the po neglected to take it in for the mandatory oil change within 5 days. When I tried to transfer the warrenty they denied the application because of this. (Even though it had been serviced by the local dealer one month earlier). So read the fine print. I ended up letting the factory warrenty expire and have done all my own work since....

Thanks for the welcome,

Paul I actually bought it in Glenwood springs, Flatiorns was great but they had a shortage of older LR3's, lots of 07 and 08's and I needed a 3rd row and wanted the heavy duty package. I found this one in Glenwood and made a weekend of it. I took it to flatirons for new a-arm bushings and a few little things before the original warranty expired.
The service guys seem great and I hope they won't give me grief if I change my oil.

Moab would be a great way to burn up the horrible Kuhmo tires that came installed but my leash isn't that long, but the pictures made me really want to go. Do many bring Mtn bike as well? or is it 24/7 LR's?

Brian -

I've heard good things about the CO Springs dealership...glad to hear they treated you right. Also good to hear that your exposure to Flatirons has been good so far. The service advisers (Paul & Randy) are generally great guys, and I've been on a few offroad trips with the Service & Parts Director, Dave. I'd say keep servicing the truck with them, develop a nice rapport and they won't be likely to give you a hard time about much.

Sorry you can't make the Rally, it should be a blast. I'm sure some folks will bring bikes along, but it's mostly a Rover thing.

Definitely drop me a line if you want to try to get out one weekend (after the Rally, and before the snow starts)!

Manufactures are not allowed to require any service be performed at a dealer to keep a warranty from being voided. It's a federal law. You do have to be able to show evidence you had the service done. Either receipts from a mechanic, or receipts of materials if you do it yourself (I's also keep a log book).
Aftermarket warranties may have a loophole that lets them require service by someone in particular, but I'd check with the FTC.
