I am placing a deposit on a 2006 LR3 SE tonight and I am opting to get the 9"inch flip down dvd screen for $2000.00. The dealer has said he has seen one model with this unit and that he "does not think" it will interfere with my rearview. However, just looking at the pictures in the brochure and imagining it placed in the middle while sitting in the car makes me think he is bullshitting. I also have the option of getting Dual 8" screens behind the driver and front passenger seats for $2600 which includes a PS2 (acts as the second dvd player) with 4-wireless headsets instead of the two that come with the 9" inch. He says that dual screens is what he reccomends and will be covered under dealer warranty and installation is included. Do any of you have the 9" center flip down and if so CAN YOU SEE Clearly out the rear???? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Firstly, the proposed drop down screen will absolutely diminish and interfere with your vision from the rear view mirror. Even the formal Land Rover accessory drop-down offerring hinders rear vision.
I have not seen an 8" installation yet again, I believe you are suggesting these also will drop down from roof cradles. Sounds rather tacky!
I would caution you that the Sales Guide may be a novice - pls. insure that the dealer will in fact offer a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty - I would be surprised as these items are NOT official Land Rover KIT items.
You might wish to seek a qualified specialist Car Audio specialist who can offer very fine systems w/ monitors installed in headrests.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. Yes, you are probably right in the fact that the 9"center drop down will hinder rear-view vision, even more so because it is coupled with the rear climate controls on top (see landrover accessories web-page). I am trying to decide now whether or not to goto an exclusive car audio store to get dual 8" drop down screens above the first row seats, as they will not interfere as much with center rear-view visiion. I do not think getting screens installed in the LR3 head-rests is practical because there seems to be about 5-6 inches of length on the actual head-rest. Also the warranty would be affected if a car audio place were to cut out holes in the head-rests. My dealer assured me that the dual 8" roof drop-downs behind the first row seats would be covered because they would be installing it. It is obviously third-party equipment, I dont even know the LCD manufacturer. But thanks for your input, I will dicuss tonight. Cheers.

.....further, If you are able to located a professional and competant install company, you should consult and pay attention that the weight of the monitors will not cause headliner to 'bounce' which will certainly irritate you and passengers!

Is this from the factory or an aftermarket LR/Rosen offering?

I would be interested in something like this. I was looking at getting the Clarion 10.2" for the center. But they would have to cut some of the trim on the monitor so it would be flush with the heater control module and also so it doesn't stick out over the sunroof.

We also tried to see if two 10.2" would work behind the driver/front pass. seats... too big.

Would you happen to have any pics of the dual 8" screen dvd package?

thanks

There is no "factory" DVD on LR3, as covered numerous times. Any custom installer could do something like this:

With the DVD player mounted in either in a glove box or where the center rear cup holders are... no idea where you'd mount a PS2 and not have it in the way, though. :D

I should have clarified...

I meant to say "factory installed". I know that it is not made by LR but by Rosen(they did offer a Sony made one in 2005, in Canada they did anyway...).

I haven't talked to the dealership or looked at the website since my delivery so I thought it(the dual screen) might be a new offering from LR that's all...

thanks for the link though, i will definitely look into it.
