I recently had an accident with my 2003 Discovery II SE. I hit a tree on the passenger side and the oil pan ended up with a hole in it and some obvious body damage. I took it to a body and engine shop and they replaced the damaged body parts and fixed the oil pan and bent axel on the passenger side. Now he is trying to go ahead and paint the vehicle to complete the job, but when he puts the key in the ignition all the lights and dashboard come on, but the engine won't start. I was wondering if there is some sensor or switch that has to be reset to eliminate this problem. Maybe wire harness is damaged.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. I have been without my LR for a while and really would like to have it back. Thanks

Could be the fuel shut off switch located in the engine bay... passenger side (NAS) firewall looks like a button.

i have read about changing out the starter, and resetting the fuel shut off valve and a few other things to do when the engine wont turn over. Has anyone heard of the computer/electrical of the vehicle needs to be reset by the dealership for the engine to turn over. I have a mechanic that says he has checked and everything seems to be right, but the engine won't start. He say's he has had several auto-electricians come out and test the vehicle, and they said i needed to take the LR to the dealership to have the computer reset after an accident. I am trying not to have to pay an arm and a leg to fix something at the dealership if possible. Any suggestions or first hand experience?

You say it will not start or will not even crank? If not starting it could be a fuel issue or the crank position sensor. If not even cranking, it could be a battery issue.

The power and ability to for the engine to start was because of the Fuel shut-off switch, so in that regards thanks for the info. Now after i pushed in the Fuel shut off switch and tried to start the LR, it sounds like it is trying to start, and you can smell gasoline after many attempts for the engine to turn over. But the fuel wont catch the spark to ignite. I know there are probably many reasons for this, but i was wondering if it could be the fuel itself. I got in a accident in January and the LR has been at my friends shop ever since. They didn't even know about the fuel shut off switch and i had to go and do it for them, thanks to the advice on this forum. I was thinking that because the LR had been sitting for this long, that maybe the gas is just to old with to much water build up in it. The mechanic stated he put in new gas, but he never drained out the old stuff to begin with. Would i be wrong in assuming that you would have to drain out all the gas in the vehicle first, then put in fresh gas, and once this happens then the LR will turn over? I figured it would be like pouring in half gas and half water in a glass and trying to light it with a match. Any and all info would be very helpful.
