Engine with sludge and preventing oil to reach the oil pan

Hey everyone ,
I have a 97' disco that I just recently bought. I did an oil change , and only 3-4 quarts of oil drained out. So I put about 3 1/2 quarts of oil in. The dipstick says its "overfilled" though not a good amount of oil has reached the oil pan yet. Obviously the engine has sludge if not a lot, but is there anything I can do to possibly fix/solve this problem?

Yes, first stop running it and then plan on a lot of checking out.
