Hello everyone,

I live in California and I am still waiting for my license plates to arrive with my registration. Unfortunately, here in California we are required to have a front license plate. I am assuming they gave me a special holder somewhere in the car (I think it's in the back compartment). Does anyone know if these are difficult to install? Do I have to drill holes in the front? I hate the idea of having a license plate there, but it is required.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks everyone!

-David.

2 (1 1/4") screws work good. I used galvanized screws, wood thread, screws. I installed the front holder on my truck after the cops would not give me another "warning". I got away with it for just over two years. The holder is shaped in a way that you dont have to worry about the vertical alignment. Just a tape measure to make sure that it is center. My 2008 didn't have any "placement marks" on the bumper, maybe your LR4 does.

Thanks for the help! I have not looked carefully, but there does not appear to be placement marks in the front bumper. I am not sure how strict California will be, but maybe I will hold off until I get a warning. However, knowing this state, they will probably ticket me right away. I appreciate your help!

The front plate holder has a clip in the middle that aligns to the middle of the lower bumper for mounting. If you move your hand over the top portion you'll feel two raised lines, the holder clip slips over and between those aligment lines. And unfortunately you do need to drill into that lower bumper area to mount. But you could try using double sided 3M tape... That's used a lot to mount the plinth and number plates in Europe. California law is lame...

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually still need to finish looking for the bracket in the LR4. I asked my dealership and they said it should be in one of the cargo areas, but I have yet to find it. I think they did not include it. Unless it's under the 7 row seating?

Anyone else have troubling finding it?

I am going to have the dealership install the the front plate, as they said they woudl it anytime. I just can't bring myself to drill into the front bumper. Damn!

And yes, CA lame is really lame about this issue. I hate the idea of ruining the front with a stupid license plate.
