Was quoted $2,000 plus 15 hours of labor from Land Rover of Tulsa. Does that seem correct or does any know of better options?

Thanks,

John

Must be the dreaded cracks around the passenger airbag outline, common on early model year Sports, especially in areas with high sun and heat exposure... Land Rover knows it, they modified the design of their dash on later model years. My suggestions are: Live with it, or call a company specializing in repairing leather, vinyl, etc, such as this one: http://www.fibrenew.com/ (I am sure there are others, perhaps even in your area.) They should be able to fill those cracks until they nearly disappear, for a fraction of the cost your dealer quoted you to replace the dash.

Those on my forum (rangerovers.net) who bit the bullet and went through with dash replacement generally regretted it. It is indeed a very time consuming process involving a ridiculously expensive part, and 2 out of 3 times the replacement generates new squeaks and rattles from under the dash, which weren't there before the switch.

Thanks for the reply. Local Fibrenew won't do due to liability of being by the airbag. Just got the 2007 and love it except for the crack. It drives great. Any other worries coming up? From what I have read, the cars seem to get a bad rap, much over blown.

I guess it depends on the franchise, down in Florida an owner got the local Fibrenew to repair the same crack on his 2006 RRS and he was ecstatic with the results... But I can see their concern about potential liability.

Regarding the Sport, I just sold my 2006 HSE with 210,000 miles, best car I ever owned and a dream to drive, and I obviously drove it a lot. I had some issues with it, but all of the "annoying" variety, nothing I wouldn't expect from any car with that many miles. My baby never once left me stranded, engine and tranny are bulletproof. Took her off road quite often and stuck to the suggested oil changes and services every 7500 miles religiously (obviously at an indy shop, as dealers will eat you alive after warranty.) Against everyone's opinion, I didn't get any extended warranty, and I was right. Other than a number of sway bar bushings, a couple of EAS compressors - one replaced under warranty when the car was almost new - and both front wheel hubs, just regular maintenance. I would have purchased another one, were it not for the fact that I need more space for my growing family.... So I got the next best thing, a 2013 LR4.

I hope your ownership experience is half as good as mine was, you'll love this car. There is still nothing quite like it on the road in my opinion.
