Heated Seat

My 1997 Disco's seat heaters only work on the passengers side. Other than a blown fuse, which is not the problem, i cant think of where else to begin to find out why the drivers heater is not working. Any suggestions?

hmm maybe a wire is broken somewhere? How do you turn the seat heaters on? I have a 97 too but I don't know if mine has seat heaters.

Try switching the buttons from the passenger to drivers side and see if the switch is bad, otherwise I beleive (can't remember for sure) that there is a fuse after the switch going to the seat heater. Or the element could have just gone bad.

Exact same thing just happened with my 97 Disco SE7. Except that the seat got really hot under my left leg when I would turn it on. I figured the element was getting ready to fry. After switching it on a few moree times over the next couple of days it stopped working.

Joey: Any advice about repairing if the element needs to be replaced?

If it was my rover I would just get an aftermarket seat heater and install it... around $80 - $100 for a complete setup... about 2 to 3 hours to install (you have to remove the seat.

Where can you get the replacement element for the heated seat?

Also with the driver's seat, I can't get it to adjust up or down. The switches are ok and the motors are ok. Somethin seems to be sticking in the gears under the seat. Nothing in any of my manuals about this.

Can these be taken apart and cleaned or is there something else wrong.
97 Disco SE7. 94k miles.

The above are just two of many places to buy seat heaters. (No I haven't ordered from either, but the heated massage seats on the first link look nice)

How do you know the switches and motors are okay? Have you checked for blockage?

Yes:

when I disconnected the cables from the motors, the motors responded to whatever direction I moved the switch. When connected to the motors the cables would not turn but would stick. Cables are not broken and when I worked them manually I was able to get them to turn to a point and the seat would go up and down. But at some point they would stick again.

Forward and back are ok as is the control for the seat back. It is just the up down and pitch of the seat bottom.

I would start with a lot of lube on the cables (after checking for anything stuck in the movement parts of the seat), I haven't had the prevledge of working on the seats yet, but one of these days I plan to install something a little more comfortable.
