Hey guys. I bought a HSE couple of week ago and I need to replace tires... Its 19" so i dont have many options..... I live in South florida. I drive most of the time on the Highway and some off road. but I do go on trip every two weeks out of the city. and the car is fully loaded. I put a bike hitch racks with three bikes a big cargo box in the roof. and inside its full. so the car goes really heavy.....

The tires im looking so far are

the new Goodyear MT/R
or the pirellys scorpion On/Off road///

I hear the pirellis does not last long since they are made out of a soft compound....
I know the Mt/R will be noisy than the pirelly but I was wondering how if they will last longer than the pirellis on the highway... It not which other tire would you recommend...

Do you do a lot of mud running? If so, the MTR's are a good choice. Otherwise, might want to go more street oriented, like Michelin Synchrones

I dont really do mud running.... i would say 90% will be in the highway and 10% off road.....

how about the michelin Latitude.. I hear good reviews of the Synchrones.... but Im kind of scare that since the car is always carring a lot of weight... the tire wont last. that why I was thinking of the MT/s since they look really agggresive with more tread pattern< i figured they should last longer. Probably im wrong. since I dont know much about tires.....

The MTR would make a poor "90% street, no mud" tire, in my opinion. Besides the rumble from the tread and the stiff sidewalls, they will likely be so-so on rain and not very good over ice and snow, as the chunky, deeply sculpted blocks that work great for grabbing rocks and clearing mud + slush when off road, could become a liability on wet or slippery and icy roads as your contact patch decreases. In addition, I heard the MT/R had a relatively low speed rating, which would not make them the safest choice for extended road trips or commutes at highway speeds.

The new 255/55/19 Pirelli Scorpion ATRs would also appear to be pretty good for mixed on and off-road use. The 19s have not been on the market much, so there is probably very little feedback on them from other LR owners. But on paper they look like a good compromise.

sebastian24,

I am also in Miami. My noisy GY tires have 27k and I'm planning on replacing them with the Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires soon. They are great road tires and fine for light off roading. should get around 30k out of them.

I too was thinking of the MTRs for daily use but its true, they won't handle well in the rain when these roads become slick.

are you going to the rover event in northern Florida later this month?

Current consumer reports that just came in the mail rates on- and off- road SUV tires. Only a few are in HSE size, but it might help you decide.

Search here for HSE or 19 + tires, there are about 5 or 6 options including a Toyo, a Bridgestone and a Vredenstein (sp?) discussed.

Sebastian 24- I got a set of the Michelin Synchrones about a year ago and what a difference over the Wrangler HPs. The Synchrones are very quiet on the highway and seem to have good wet traction. From what I've read, they are ok offroad. I also have a set of the Wrangler MT/Rs that I use for off roading- they are very good in mud and on rocks, but I would not want to run them all the time for highway use. There is a good bit more noise and I notice the mileage drop a mile or 2 per gallon when I have them on.
