Hi just joined. I currently drive a steel spring 2010 Touareg TDI running 255/75r17 AT tires running a small lift giving me ~10.75" of ground clearance. I'm looking to get into a 2014-2016 LR4 and am trying to figure out the wheel situation prior to pulling the trigger on a LR4.
How do I get off road worthy tires on an LR4? I'm willing to minor trimming, or change brakes.
Thanks for your help.

I prefer stock sizes as I don't do any wild & crazy off-roading myself. With that said, you will get all kinds of answers & suggestions. But for anyone to be specific, you will need to tell us just what type of off road experiences you intend to do. I know a guy that recently did the FULL MOAB run in a stock LR3 with nothing but his stock 19" AT tires without any issues. Big differences between sand, rocks, swamps & river crossings, so add where you want to do the most off roading.

I drive in NM and CO on soft sand, rocks, sandstone. I have done a lot of the trails in Alpine Loop: Engineer Pass, Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass. I carry a compressor, and have gone as low as 15psi on my Touareg in sand, and run 20-30psi on off road trails. I am currently running 255/75r17 (~32") which is about as large as i can go on the touareg without extensive modifications. I have never bent a rim on my touareg but I did push the bead off the rim at 15psi once when I slid sideways off an embankment. I've been to moab with my Touareg. Driving on the sandstone is a very specific form of off road driving. It is like driving on sandpaper. There isn't much need to air down since it is hard and flat like the street. Slicks or street tires actually get the most traction there.

I understand that the LR4 can run 18" rims with the right rim, or by changing to smaller front rotors. I'm hoping to hear from people that have fit smaller rims or brakes and what their recommendations.
