What does your local dealer charge for LR keyless entry remotes?

My LR dealer wants $179 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (94 Discovery, 99 Discovery).

I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming.

I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too.

What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.

I bought 2 remotes for my '98 Disco from keylessride.com. The remotes from that website are brand new. I got 2 for $95.00 (including shipping). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to program my own remotes (even with directions from other owners) so I bit the bullet and went to the dealer. Dealers in NJ get about $100 and hour for labor, so they bent me over for 30 minutes or $50 (USD). Then I got the lecture about "The Service" since I was about 3-4K away from 90,000. After that, I took my remotes and split. You shouldn't pay more than $50 to program your remotes. The job probably takes less than 30 minutes...

MeyersD,
Are you in N NJ or S NJ?
I am down south, Fort Dix'ish.
So far, I have been using the dealer at Cherry Hill (or is that the other way around?)

Don't know where I saw this, it was on thread on one of the forums. Anyhow, for My 98 Disco'e two button remote all I had to do to reprogram was

click the "lock"button 4 time the click the "unlock" button once.
For me it worked first time however there was a warning not to to try it more than twice or you could screw up the other remote as well.

I'm in Northern New Jersey. I have a mechanic up here that works only on Land Rover products. (http://www.roverspecialist.com/). He does good work and is cheaper than the dealer. Best of all he only recommends work that is needed. I think the dealer had an ****** when he saw I was near the 90,000 service interval.

I found another site online that I'm willing to give a shot - www.ThePartsYouNeed.com

The other KR site wants about $160 a piece with shipping for the 94 Land Rover remote...hardly any discount off dealer price.

They're less than 1/2 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning.

https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/displayProductDocument.hg?productId=1331

I'll keep you guys posted. If it works good, I'm going to order one for my 99 as well.

You'll find the one button remotes for earlier Disco I's are a lot more expensive than the remotes for the '97-99 Disco I's, even on the discount sites.

The price wasnt bad on ThePartsYouNeed.com. They have them available at $59.99, where everyone else is like double or triple that.

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail today. 4 days isn't bad especially when one was a Sunday.

Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds with one of my friends helping. (needed 2 people) I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers.

Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the 99 I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the 94 and a pair for the 99. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use.

ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks!
