Tire Ware Issue

Hello All,

As mentioned in prior message in this thread I have been to the dealer several times complaining of tire noise. I have the 18" Goodyear’s and with 12,500 miles I have very noticeable inside edge ware with slight feathering of the inside lugs.
The tires have been rotated twice and balanced twice with one alignment check, but I did not get the alignment print out. Dealer indicates all is good and they view the tire noise as within range of other LR3. What motivated me to pursue this was I had a LR3 service loaner that was whisper quite with the same wheel/tire combo…

I am going to take the LR3 to an independent alignment shop for verification but does any one have other suggestions. I will buy new tires only after I'm sure the root problem is fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I believe the vehicle has negative camber designed in it to help cornering, which will result in the inside edge wearing first. In any case the research I've done has lead me to beleive that upping the tire pressure might help. I've put 38psi in my front and 42 psi rear. I've also purchased a tire gauge and have been monitoring the wear on the new tires. The tire nosie went away with the new tires. I also had an indepdant shop verify my alignment. The dealer has the new alignment toe out 0.20 ft per mile, which is in specs.

Also if you can, fill out manufactures defect notification. When I did this, all of a sudden the replacment tires were for free. In Florida if you have taken your car in 3 times for the same problem or out of service 15days you can send in the notificaion.

flowner, Thanks for the information. I will try the increased tire pressure to see if it will at least slow the wear down on existing Goodyears.

I have mentioned replacement tires to the Dealer but so far we are no where as I am not really pushing the issue. I will check to see if Maryland has a mfg defect notification or similiar item.

Thanks again.

Let me know how the extra pressure works out. I've been trying to find out what toyota recommends. Their vehicles seem to get good tire wear. I would prefer a little less comfort for better wear.
