While driving off-road today I started to hear a noise. It seems like maybe a wheel bearing, but I've never had one go bad. I recorded a vid of it. The first occurence the terrain is flat, but at the end I drove over a washout section (It doesn't look at all like that in the vid) and the noise was a bit louder going through it. It Is the sound familiar with anyone and do you know what it could be?

I was thinking about pulling the ebrake to exercise it, but I didn't get around to it. I'll need to try that and see if there is any change in noise. I tried to pull the rotors off months ago, but they were stuck on there and I came to the conclusion that I needed a software switch adjustment in the GAP tool. But when I looked at a wheel bearing replacement video, I just saw one star wheel with the rotor off and no need for the GAP tool. However, it may have been an LR3.

I will need to try to remove the rear rotors again because if its a brake shoe problem, that is way better than a bad bearing as long as it isn't stuck against the drum. 4hrs labor, $200 in parts and $1100 total for one rear bearing replacement was the quote I got today for it.

If the shoes are de-laminating, would that cause the rotor to get stuck on the hub after backing off the star wheel?

Could be brake shoes delaminating.
I think you are right because the wheel isn't loose when in the air. In addition, I called a shop for a bearing quote and he thought it wasn't a bearing because the issue replicated at 5 MPH and he thought that bearing symptoms normally occur at higher speed. Either way, I will need to take it in because I don't have what I need to fix it out in the country. I appreciate the help. I'm going to try to replicate the problem tomorrow since I ran the ebrake because if I can't reproduce the issue then they won't be able to fix it.

When the braking friction material separates from the brake shoe, the material can get jammed on the drum.
This can make the rotor difficult to remove.

Wheel bearing noises can be ruled out by driving the vehicle and swerving left to right. See if the noise changes.

One of my rear brake pads delaminated and was making a squealing noise too, not nearly as pronounced mind you.
Thanks for the input. I approached the problem today with and decided to back-off the star wheel. That was something I could do here and now because I need to keep driving it. I will need to attempt to pull the rotor off again before making an appointment for someone else to fix it. I have a 10 and 25 pound weight to sling at it. I was also thinking of the screwdriver in the vein trick that I used for the fronts with a pull of the screw driver and a hit. Any tips on removing the rotor after backing off the star wheel and removing the caliper would be helpful.

I went to go for a test drive to try to reproduce the problem and the battery didn't have enough juice to start the engine. I need to replace it because its reserve capacity is waning. I'm starting to think the test to let it die to see how much time I can get opening/closing doors was not such a great idea lol.

I've had small rocks wedge themselves between the rotor and the rotor shield and make awful noises. Usually self correcting.
