Mechanic Recommendation

Hello All,

Totally new here. I thought this would be the best place to get answers for issues with my '01 Disco II, 64K miles. I'm looking to find a good mechanic other than the dealership. I'm actually quite fed up with my dealership . Here goes:

1. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Los Angeles area? I'm looking to get my brakes done.

2. My dealer estimae said that my front and rear brakes needed to be replaced and that it would cost me close to $1250. Is this correct? What can I reasonably expect in cost from an independent?

How mechanically inclined are you? I can tell you, that the parts alone (rotors, pads, sensors) to do all 4 wheels will run you maybe $400.00. I would do it myself, if I could. You may find cheaper than $1250 from a reputible mechanic, but I would venture to guess, it will still be at least $800.00.

Consider yourself lucky.....you have a Disco II, which from all I have seen and heard, is the easier model for brake jobs...
