I had the oil pan dropped and there is metal in the pan..

Wrench said ne recommends new bearings and rods.

Truck feels like it runs fine (other than the oil pressure thing with all the sluge in there.)

If the truck runs good, whats the purpose of new bearings?

What will happen if i dont do bearings and rods?

I mean, isnt this one of those things that just happens when it gets old. Cant you just drive it anyhow?

How much metal and where, is it copper or metal, is it fine power type piles in the bottom of the pan or chunks, have you seen it????
If it is fine metal power in the bottom of the pan you are still OK, this can be normal. If the is copper shaving in with the metal, then you want to have a coupple of the bearings caps pulled and inspect the bearings and crank surface.
Just remember a little wear is ok, no copper though.
How often do you change the oil? Plan on every 3000 with good additive like Lucas Oil Stabilizer and go for another 50K as long as the are no metal chunks or copper filings.
If it is bad and you don't replace the bearing and other parts as necessary, you will lock up the engine at some point, sooner then later.
Good luck,

The first time I changed the oil on my 96 Disco I pulled a 1" by 1/2" piece of curved metal out of my oil pan. Thank heavens it runs fine. Made a mental note to give previous owner @#$% next time I saw him about letting a car run low on oil.

yeah....i cant belive it..because the PO rarely changed the oil.

The pickup tube wasnt clogged like we thought, The oil was just so thick and gooey, that it wasnt circulating..... unbeliveable..... I cant belive someone wouldnt change the oil at worst every 7k....... The wrench said that the oil probably hant been changed in 20k or so...

I was wondering why is wasnt leaking any.....

anyhow, I think the warranty will pay for new bearings and such. If they wont, there just going to put it back together and drive it as is. Its not running bad, except for a misfire code.

anyway to check and clear the codes myself on this thing?

So make sure you fluah the engine real good maybe twice over the next 2 oil changes you get rid of all the old crap.
Good luck,

Alright...got to look at it apart.

The "metal" in the pan was barely noticeable...not enough to be alarmed. Actutualy had to hunt for it.

The bearings had a little wear..you could see a hint of copper (about 3 mm line towards the edge of one...) but not enough to worry about in my opinion. Synthetis would keep them ok, yes?

The screen was clogged. So its clean now and they are putting it back together.

Heres my plan, tell me what you think:

Run synthetic 15/50 motor oil with stabilizer. change at 2000 miles and flush, then run the same.

He said the misfire code was probably valve related, but you cant tell unless its taken apart. So clear the light, and im thinking running some seafoam through. Well see if it comes back..

What are the causes of misfire besides plugs/wires???

Sounds like a good plan, make sure you flush it twice over the next 4000 miles with either a good brand engine oil flush or 2 qts. of ATF. DON'T DRIVE WITH IT IN THE ENGINE, JUST LET IT IDLE FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES, then empty.
Lucas would be an idea to help prevent anumore wear.
As fot the misfires, in a Rover it is carbon or bad plugs and wires that will usually cause this, valves usually cause back firing.
So if you want to do it right buy a set of Magnacor plug wires from
www.offroadtuff.com/ and install a set of Bosh Platium Plus 4's and you will be on the road to a happier truck.
You might also buy 2 cans of SeaFoam and I will show you how to decarbon the engine.
