My wife had an interesting occurrence while driving at highway speeds in the LR4 a few weeks back....
The parking brake (rear right wheel) engaged randomly at 65/75 miles per hour. She said it sounded like a helicopter was flying over head at low altitude, the car began to heavily shudder, and she also smelled a very pungent burn... I took the car into the dealer the next day, and they verified that the emergency brake pads were heavily worn and that the burning smell was still there. All they could come up with was that some rust (?) triggered a sensor and that turned on the e-brake. I had them clean it all up, and then recalibrate the e-brake and all has been well since...
Any thoughts about what might have happened? Has this happened to anyone else?
(Of course - I am trying to absolve my wife of driver error. Is it possible to accidently engage the e-brake while in drive?)
Thanks,
-Blake
