pedal response gripe

Still love the truck, but man that sluggish pedal response is still annoying me. By that, I mean the delay from when you floor the pedal to when the truck reacts. Try this at any speed (in sport, auto, or manual shift mode)...drive along, pretend you just merged lanes and a tractor trailer is behind you, he isn't budging over as you expected, and you have to MOVE NOW...floor the gas...

...what happens on my HSE is about a 2 second delay before you feel the truck accelerating and up to 5 seconds before the engine has fully reacted to your command and is accelerating fast.

I know, I know...its a good engine, I drive at highway speeds and it does well and handles cruise control, grades, high speeds, all well and stable. It also does pretty well off the line from a stop. But damn I'm used to having a truck respond the instant I hit that pedal. I've almost got myself in a couple "situations" because I am used to my old SUV responding better. Heck, I was doing 65mph and hit the gas to pass somebody and it felt like I could have read a book before the truck responded...that will really make you reconsider your decision to pass on a dotted line with oncoming traffic!!!

</end gripe>

Yeah even with 6 gears the 50-70mph gitty-up isn't that good. Makes for some interesting passes on two lane country roads!

I make a trip once a week on the interstate 180 miles out and back with the cruise control set at 85+mph. My speed will drop 5-10mph going up hills and Ive learned to kick it back into 5th to maintain speed.

The transmission is also 'adaptive' and adjusts to your driving style. The more you 'get on it' the faster the response. see here- http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2056

Yeah us Yanks are used to having power but can you imagine driving the diesel that everyone else in the world is buying! heh heh heh

The adaptive driving is nice but like you guys said it can sometimes come in handy at the wrong time. I have to admit I have days where I drive like a way over the hill sunday driver with no where to go. The adaptive driving slows down the reactiveness of the gas and shifts to suit my lazy driving habits. But when I drive like a nervous rabbit from hell the adaptive driving acts like its in sport mode. I would say they truck is always about 10 minutes behind my style. But remember...if you want the pep right away just slide that gear selector over to the right and you'll have Sport mode on. I find the truck very responsive in that state. Hope it helps...

I agree, once the engine engages it's great. There is definitely a delay in throttle response. I'm not sure why this is necessary?? I think that the sand setting is supposed to be the most responsive, but I don't use it b/c you have to manually shift the gears.

When you shift to sports mode , manually drop it down to the lowest gear possible. I found that helps when passing and you need all the power you can get.

Nah, read the original post. Sure manual shifting and sport mode make some difference, but that delay is still there. Yeah, its a truck, but I'm comparing this to other SUVs that didn't behave this way. So, its either the engine or the "intelligent" transmission.

Good responses, though. Others notice the same thing. No reason you can't drive a truck and still feel safe when you have to step on it immediately and want to know your vehicle will be there for you.
