Price an extended warranty to 100K and put that in your budget. That'll give you peace of mind. I have 95,000 and my extended warranty has paid for itself several times over. All small easy stuff that didn't leave me stranded, but it is unfortunately VERY easy to work up a $1000 tab at the dealer.
On the other hand, you may find a non-dealer shop around that will service your LR3. I still haven't found one in Maryland. At a minimum, you need to connect to the computers to read the error codes and reload sw service updates, so you will be at your dealer on occasion.
Considering the weight of the vehicle, I think the gas mileage is pretty darn good. Highway driving, even at my mileage, I still get 20mpg at 70mph. That is with a storage box on the roof. Around town I'm probably under 15mpg. I don't have a long commute so it doesn't bother me too much. If I did, I'd be looking at a different vehicle for commuting.
It is a fun vehicle and a great ride. Buy it! Enjoy it!
