Any recommendations on recovery straps? I've read up on them quite a bit (sounds like you want one made of nylon so it stretches, no metal tow hooks to turn in to projectiles, etc).

Does anyone have one they like?

There are lots of sources to buy these from, but what you want is a 3" wide x 30' foot long ****** strap. These have the capacity for your heavy truck and work great. I highly recommend the straps from ARB, as they are very well made, with intelligent stitch orientation, binding method, and material selections.

A tree protector is not the same thing! They are made from different, non-elastic materials.

With the LR3, you have two built in recovery points (one front, one rear) that can receive a bow shackle. You attach the recovery strap to the shackle, and insert the shackle to the recovery point on your truck (preferably the rear recovery point).

You access the recovery points by taking a 10 cent dime to turn the plastic screws 90 degrees and then the covers pop right off, revealing the steel loop recovery points.

Here is a link to the ARB strap and shackles:

There are many sources, but these are products I trust with my life.

These aren't great photos, but they show my rear recovery point with shackle installed:

The bottom photo is one the Doran Canyon trail in the Odessa/Calico area. Probably the knarliest trail I've done in the LR3 so far.

...both of these are in Southern California.

Rich, I'm glad that was useful. I'll bend over backwards to help someone I see willing to use their truck!
