I feel pretty silly about this, but I have to correct or clarify something said on a previous post:

http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3370&page=1&pp=10&highlight=parking

We were discussing how to park the LR3 and I really blew off comments as being sort of silly or perpetuating unnecessary discussion. However, I have to correct myself as I learned that there is something to this when I was at the LR Exper. Driving school this past weekend.

...and to close the book on this topic, the procedure I was taught was as-follows:

1. While in either "R" or "D" apply the parking brake-this clearly depends on what direction (fwd/backward) you're going when you go to park.

2. Shift to "N" - your foot should still be on the foot brake.

3. While in "N" remove your foot from the foot brake.

4. While still in "N" put your foot back on the foot brake.

5. Put the transmission in Park. Remove your foot from the foot brake. done.

Anyhow, I hope that this is informative and clears things up for people. It will get rid of that little "click" you hear when you shift sometimes. A parking brake is much easier to fix than a transmission.

By the way, applying the e-brake at 30 MPH or so is pretty cool !! You should all try it (while under warranty) just to feel it and make sure it works !

Again, sorry for dismissing this topic before.

Regards.

Thanks for the info. Can't say I'll go through that trouble every time I park, but its worth knowing a proper method to reduce tranny strain.

....

More info on this one please! Are you talking about the parking break or emergency braking (slam on the brakes) at 30mph. What happens? (you stop, I hope)

How much time did they spend on proper parking technique?
How many follow-up questions were there?

I'm 99% sure that he means to use the parking brake at 30mph, and not just stomp down on the brakes.

todd, I was talking about pulling and holding the parking break at high(er) speeds. Apparently it works up to 100 MPH, but I've only tested at about 35. It's cool.

Moose, we didn't really spend much time on braking technique, except on easing out to let HDC take over, and using the Parking Brake. I pulled the parking break because I've always wanted to and he said it was cool.

Askewed, do you mean THIS thread is the strangest ever, or that the one linked was...?

Why is it so strange? ....I felt like I mis-spoked and wanted to correct myself and give new information.

Okay, you keep saying its cool...

WHAT IS COOL about it? What happens when you pull the parking brake at speed? (how the vehicle responds, how you respond, etc.)

Thanks! :)

First, there is the fact that it stops you RIGHT NOW yet under control and in a straight line with no skidding.

Second, there is the cool beeping noise it makes and message in the info center.

Hey, try it yourself and see how else it can be described.
