Out of curiosity, on this particular subject, does the gang think that there any interest in a thread about LR4 breather pipes?
I ask because I was most surprised to find out while working on my major rebuild project that the transmission, front differential, and transfer case / gearbox all vent into the engine bay.
Apparently there were some issues with the LR3 breathers (which were very short and I had read a number of forum posts about them) so I was concerned about that.
Below is a photo of my 2010 LR4 (V8 5.0) front differential Breather which is really just a plastic tube that wraps around the driver side of the engine bay and vents near the coolant reservoir (along with the transfer case breather pipe).
My truck does not have the little valve shown in the interesting photograph above from
@anamorphic - mine is just an open tube; I was actually thinking about doing something with them to tidy things up a bit and hopefully organize this a little better (at least for me).
All that said, it seems there are many different breather configurations (I suppose mine is raised because it is the "Heavy Duty" variant) and the workshop manual I have is very unhelpful in this regard - see the exploded diagram of the Front Differential attached; the breather and "cap" are #34 & #35 (and I think that is actually the LR3 diff / diagram re-used for the LR4 manual but I digress).
To state my question a different way: would it be helpful if I begin a new threat concerning LR4 breather pipes?
Many thanks -
