Anyone had the sound system go muffled and bassy? Stopped to get gas and when I started up again, nothing but muffled bass. Adjusted everything bass, treble, fader (no sound from rear), balance, subwoofer. Nothing changed it. Sounds the same for everything, CD, radio, satellite, even Moneypenny's nav directions.

May return to normal in a couple of days.

Assuming your battery / electrical system is OK, probably in a couple of days the radio will go back to normal. Occasionally it just throws a snit. I assume you have the high end HSE radio with the keypad to the left?

If there is any doubt as to the condition of the battery, throw a trickle charger, (CTEK or similar), on the battery for a week of nights.

If all else fails, consider a hard reset - it can do wonders and does not seem to harm anything.

Hard Reset Instructions

In brief, to start the hard reset process, open the hood but close all doors and let your 3 go to sleep - no radio display etc and no key in the ignition. This will take a couple of minutes and do not open any doors until the reset is completed. (I find that it is often a good idea to have the drivers door window rolled down and the key in my pocket whenever fooling about the vehicle.)

Disconnect the ground battery terminal from the main starting battery.
Disconnect the positive battery terminal from the main starting battery.

(I assume that you only have one battery in your 3. If not, disconnect the others as well and leave them disconnected until after all is done.)

Connect the negative cable to the positive cable. (NOT the battery.) You will need a short length, (a foot or so), of light gauge, (14 to 18 gauge AWG, insulated stranded copper), wire to span between the battery cable ends as there is not enough slack in the positive and negative battery cables for the ends to touch each other.

Hold all together for about a minute or more, as you are discharging memory modules within the engine computer and elsewhere. Then it is suggested you just let all sit disconnected for say ten minutes prior to commencing to put the battery cable ends back on the battery posts per the following.

Reattach positive terminal to the main starting battery positive post.
Reattach negative terminal to the main starting battery negative post.

Start engine and hopefully no or fewer warning lights.
Reset time on the radio - note that the station presets are still there as not everything is erased. Nothing much else needs resetting either.

You can now connect up the other batteries if you have a multiple battery setup.

Thanks

Worked fine when it started this morning. Thanks for the hard reset info. I will keep in handy. Every now and then the nave touch screen stops responding and after a couple days everythings goes back to normal. The hard reset might be good for that

Hard reset speeds the process up.

Glad to hear the radio is back working. My theory is that the software is always generating or recording error codes but that depending upon the code, there has to be a specific number of any which one before you actually see a light or there is some adverse affect.

As other codes are generated, specific codes tend to fall into the background and eventually disappear.

The hard reset process just seems to speed up that process. I find that at least seems to be true for the entertainment systems, NAV included. As to engine codes, fortunately to date, I have not yet had any so have no experience with them. I kind of doubt the hard reset will **** off a MIL light and does not seem to get rid of suspension error lights either.

Most recently I had my alternator replaced, (twice), and each time the radio display acted up; the hard reset returned the display to normal. I keep a length of 14 gauge wire in the 3 for such fusses and maybe only have to use it about once a year. Twice a year, I do the CTEK battery charge thing for a week at a time; that is what I call preventive maintenance.
