As many of you know, I am not yet an LR4 owner, but plan to be sometime this this year. I have a Thule 1800 box from when I had my V70R, and I may have to use it for our July vacation. Our current car is a 2011 328iT with factory roof rails. The 3er will be returned in the Fall, so I am trying not to invest too much for a one time use.
From Thule's site, it appears the cross bars and 460R/460 bases will work for both vehicles. The only thing unique to each is the kit.
To that end, a few questions...
1) What bar do you recommend, the traditional square one, or the new aeroblade load bar? I am concerned that the sleeker one may not be as universally compatible as the square one. I don't plan on keeping it on all the time, so I think the are effect is not that big a deal. Plus I rather stick with black (aeroblade is silver with black).
2) Thule naturally recommends a shorter load bar for the BMW (50"), but I rather get the longer one recommended for the LR4 (58"). What do you think? is 58" too long/too short/just right?
3) Do you have any experience with these newer Thule parts (460 podium)? Is this the best setup for LR4's?
Thanks!
