Hello,

I know there are a number of threads talking about a trans. failsafe prog. appearing on the dash and the transmission staying in high gear, buy what can I try? Stealership says I need a new transmission, but how? 71K 2004 just had 60K major service and my wife works 5 blocks from home(primary driver). Transmission was fine until last week when failsafe light came on. Turned the car off and it went off. Drove the next day and it came on again. Turned the car off, disappeared again. Did it one more time but now its staying on. Stealership said that it was a shift solenoid that was staying on which was keeping it in high gear. Had them check the voltage at the alt. and the load on the battery and they said both were in specs (don't know, wasn't there and don't really trust them) but is there anyway to bypass, double check, or reset light to see if it will come on again?

Sounds like your battery is going dead.

What should the normal load be?

Thanks, I've seen you and others post the same information before regarding the load on the system and what the battery is supposed to be doing, but do you have a value of how high or low the amps should be?

If it is factory original it is time to replace the battery.
