transmission dead

I have a 96 disco, the transmission just went bad, no forward gears. 119,000miles and the car is in fair condition. Is this thing worth repairing and will a used transmission with 100k on it work , Yes its cheap 500. Is it unusually for the trans to go bad

Dang, $500 for a used transmission with that many miles? That doesn't sound like a great deal to me, but if it works, it works. Maybe your transmission wasn't well maintained or something. I'd shop around for a new one online first.
