I'd be a little concerned about heat build up when putting a mat over it. I'm no expert on LCD's, but any electronic device emits heat.

We, too, get tired of having to turn it off all time - and only use it every once in a while. I turned it down as far as I could, but the glare at night is much more than I like - especially on long drives.

JThiessen, there is no risk from heat damage. LCDs and their backlighting, especially at this size, generates minimal heat... and the screen itself doesn't exactly vent anything.

Upon ignition my screen comes on in the "options" mode, so it only takes me one press (Screen Off) of a button to turn if off.

Mine requires that I press the settings menu button, then screen off.

Im on the same page Hoam. Is putting the car in gear bothersome too? Im sorry to break your balls RoverMan but it does come off a little silly that pressing 3 buttons and taking 3 seconds is constituting this concern. Fact is, the time you spent signing in and writing up your question on this board is the combined time you will spend turning that screen off for as long as you own your LR.

We all have opinions colleyt, I also have auto headlights, power door locks, auto windshield wipers, auto transmission, power seats and homelink - all of which none of us 'need'. Sorry that my question got you riled up enough to waste everyone's time with a useless post. If I don't want to press a button 5000 times during the life of my car, I'll ask about it. Is it the hardest thing in the world to press, of course not? Will I break my finger or crash doing it, probably not. But I'd fix it if someone with some expertise told me there was a way to do it. That's what these forums are for.
Why'd you even read this thread anyway, the title should pretty much have informed you of it's trivial nature.
