I'm having some noise from the valves, has anyone here had problems with valves sticking, or lifter problems, or any valve train problem at all? I'm not too familiar with rovers yet but an engine is (for the most part) an engine and being a ford tech have narrowed the problem down to the valve train.
My wife took it to the dealership and the service writer spoke to her like she was dumb, so she called me at work to speak to him and I got the same treatment from him, he insisted that it was detonation and did not put anything close to the valve noise as I described on the repair order. he recomended we change gas, so we did and amazingly no change in noises and no faith/trust in Land Rover in scottsdale Az.
If anyone has some helpful advice on this issue We would greatly appreciate it!

Some more info please! What year, model and mileage do you have. Do you have any loss of power? Where is the noise coming from? Any exhaust smoke?

2001 SD 44,500 mi., no smoke, I hardly drive it so power felt decent to me and my wife is so light on the gas I don't think she would notice much.
I have monitored the truck during a test drive using a ford scan tool that we use to monitor OBD2 generic emissions, the O2 sensors indicated no problems and the misfire monitors indicated no problems during the noise. It only occurs under moderate/heavy load above 2400RPM in the drivers side front bank of the engine

Sounds like carbon build up to me on the exhaust valves.... this is a known issue. Two ways to fix this:

1. Seafoam or similar (fuel tank, intake, oil) 1 can each
2. Complete Valve Job replacing the valves and guides with the new style... not that this will fix the issue, but it helps.

I'll try the seafoam first, if no change I'll do the valves, thank's for the info. this trucks been a real pain in the ass the last several weeks but makes up for it when we go camping/wheeling.
