Thanks! I'll be travelling rich. Canon EOS 1DS MarkII with multiple lenses, Leitz binoculars 8x30, laptop, Canon G4, Nikon Coolpix 950.... they each have their uses. Complete set of Nikon film cameras- 4 bodies and 20 lenses. ... Photography has been a life long passion. Yes! I have asked the group to give me their best opinion about Land Rovers and you have all been GREAT! and I'll pay you all back with a link to flikr for some of my own stuff.

Incidentally I'm going to be driving with one of these... http://www.proofpronto.com/dacah.html
which is really really cool...

The usual precautions, no night driving, rest up well, if I don't make the mileage quota for the day don't sweat it, I have the rest of my life anyway.... 5 star hotels when available. Street vendors for the charm and of course getting off the beaten path and sleeping in a genuine Land Rover!

Hey, I'm not planning to butt heads with Rhinos! my biggest obstacle will be the border crossings.

Here's a good link to look at the actual roadbed. ...

and why I don't think I'll need a winch! A couple guys made the trip in a VW Golf in less than 30 days and they were wearing helmets!

Thanks to all for the encouragement!

Photography is a passion!

At my age? 5 star hotels to rest up. Not like those guys in the VW Golf! I'll post a link back to this forum where to follow the photography. I'll post Land Rover stuff rather than "this is the hotel where I stayed" or scenery. The journey is pretty tame actually so there won't be much crossing rivers, traversing log bridges and battling Rhinos! I'm too old for that stuff. Mexico will be the most dangerous part, but I went to Med School in Guadalajara in the 70's so I'm hoping the lessons will keep me out of trouble! I'de like to meet a nubile Senorita, but I'm even too old for THAT! I Guess I'll just have to 'keep on down the road'.

(sorry for posting twice... it just seemed different than cams and pistons. Like I said my wallet is bigger than my tool box at this stage in my life! ... ****** will not increase the size of my tool box ! )

PS: I'll point my plugs and pit my valves before I go! You guys are great! good stuff here on this forum.

Not that you'd want to, I don't think they'll let you in with a gun, but I encourage you to bring pepper spray (a REAL can) for self defense.

Unless your DII is a real beater (unlkely) it's going to stick out when outside urban areas.

Good luck, I'm jealous, God's speed, send pics

luck,greg

I'll be taking a great camera and posting to flikr under name of alzerom. I have a few there already as test postings. It's scheduled for after my Mom expires and she lives with me age 88. I thought she was about to fade out then she sprang back to life!
