Question...your warranty offer, did i miss that but what is the requirement of the vehicles? 7yrs/100K for $4,340 is a really good deal.
I put a deposit down on an LR4 and it will arrive in late October. When I did so, I asked my dealer for a quote on an extended warranty. He came back with several options, one of which was the 7yr/100K option. He also had a 7yr/70K for just $2938, but I think I drive too much to do that one. There were more too (a 6 yr/100K for $4000, a 6 yr/85K for $4000, etc).

The extended warranty is in addition to the 5 year, 50K warranty from LR, and it covers everything except (I'm copying/pasting here):

Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard transmission clutch components, air bags, solar powered devices, hinges, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, trim, moldings, door handles, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, batteries, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, shock absorbers, audio, security or other systems not factory installed, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing, constant velocity joint boots, safety restraint systems

Hope that helps. The deductible for any of them is $100. I'm most likely going to do the 7yr/100K, but this might just be me, playing it extra-safe. I have leased my last two cars so I'm a little rusty on the ownership thing.

I was offered a similar 7/85k warranty for $4000.00 two years into my car ownership: the longer you own the car, the higher the price

I think the deal that I got of an additional three years or 85k for $3800 is pretty good. My vehicle has 47000 on it now and was purchased over 2.5 years ago. The warranty was purchased from LRN and is complete bumper to bumper. Should get me in to the new model year for the lR4 or may consider the RRS.

I got a 7/70K warranty on my then (late '06) new Volvo V70R (the most complex and sophisticated Volvo at the time) and it was under $2000, so all of these quotes sound expensive - and this was a transferable warranty issued by Volvo (same as CPO).

To be fair, considering the rate of inflation, that $2000 in 2006 would be $2316* in 2013. Not as far from the $2938 quote as it sounds.

*Edit: my math is terrible. It's actually $2316, which is closer than $2000, but still several hundred less than $2938.

The cost of warranties is what the market could stand and the customer would pay. That said, a loaded LR4 cost today about $20-25,000 more than a Volvo V70R back in 2006

My warranty did not cost $2000. It cost about $1700 - mind you, it was negotiated to be at nearly dealer cost as a condition to purchase the car. But the V70R was $45K back then. A well-loaded LR4 is $60K. So the difference is closer to $15k.

And again, let me note that I did not have a vanilla V70. I had the V70R, which had a 300/300 engine, adjustable suspension, Brembo 4-*** brakes all around, and all matter of bespoke equipment and features. That warranty was substantially more than that for a regular V70.
