Over the past few years, I have been asked the "what tire size do you recommend" question literally hundreds and hundreds of times. I always recommend staying under 31.5", and I am not a proponent of the Rod Mod.
Originally I was planning to use my '05 as tow vehicle. Take it to events, wrap it to promote the brands I was working for, etc. I liked the idea of the rod mod, more room, bigger rubber . . . . like it or not in the automotive aftermarket bigger is better. Make it unique or at least different than the Rovers you see at the mall (so to speak).
After I learned more about the capability of these beasts I sort of switched gears and thought that I'd actually take on trail and promote/brand build that way. I got concerned when my compressor failed and dropped me to the bump stops.
Now I'm leaning towards a hybrid tow/trail rig. I found out that Falken is making an AT tire in a 20", with an outside diameter of 31.62". I know 20's are not the best thing to take off road and they would be expensive to replace after I ruined the first wheel sliding off a rock, but please consider that the purpose is more mild trail use and more promotional use.
I'm not sure which direction I'm going to go but I wanted to do something before the weather in Colorado turned too crappy since my OE GY HP's are pretty much done. At least my topic has brought about interesting conversation.
