Passive Entry Question - New to LR

Hello All!

We just picked up our '12 LR4 HSE w/ climate and RSE.. Fuji White / Black-Walnut.

Our first land rover coming from multiple BMW's. Love the quality and feel of the car. However I am stumped on one thing on the Passive Keyless Entry. With key in pocket, I can get out of the car and press the little black button on the handle and it will lock the doors and fold the mirrors. Then when I come back, i press the black button and it unlocks/unfolds. Perfect.. However I've noticed a few times when I go to the passenger side or even once with the drivers door, i press the button and it does nothing.. I can hear something like it is locking again, but it will not unlock. Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe to unlock, you just pull the handle, not the black buttons.

Have a question for you, when you push the radio button without the smart key near by and the radio turn on, does it displays something like " warning low battery, your unit will tern off in 3 min"

As for the warning message. Last night after we picked up the car, we were testing out the RSE in the back seat (engine off, and just pressed start/stop to get the accessories to turn on..) We were probably using the system for about 10-15 minutes and then saw the warning sign come on regarding the low battery. I thought it was strange, but though maybe my battery was not fully charged since I just picked up the car in the afternoon.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
you do not need to press the button to unlock. All you do is put your hand on the handle and it will unlock. the buttons are only to lock the vehicle and all buttons should work the same, ie when you push the button all doors lock and the side mirrors fold. If you have 2 stage unlocking active, when you unlock the vehicle only the driver's door will unlock. You can change that setting in the vehicle settings menu.

Same exact thing happened to me re: low battery warning. I think it was the first or second night after bringing the car home. Haven't seen it since. Scared me though...

We just picked up our 2011 HSE. Our Sticker spec sheet says that "Keyless Entry Parametric Sensing Security System" is included on our car. BUT, we don't have the locking button on the door handle, and the door doesn't automatically unlock when we are close by or when we try to open the door (with key in pocket).

Did you every resolve that issue?

When we asked about it before signing the lease, the dealer said that we just needed to be 3 feet from the car.

I love the passive entry system when I am the only one using the car. It causes grief when the kids or someone not familiar with it is getting in. As you note, people's first reaction is often to push the buttons to try to unlock the door or figure out what they do.
I don't know why LR decided to put the lock squares on the non-driver doors for '12. I can't really think off a situation where I would ask a passenger to lock the doors after we got out - perhaps after assisting my kids out of the back.
I will reiterate what you have otherwise read on this forum, you will love this truck.

Yes issue was resolved in one of the earlier posts.. Just grab the door handle with key in pocket and pull and the doors automatically unlock.

Our '12 has the locking button on the handles so I'm not sure if there is a difference if yours does not have the button.

I'm new to LR, so if you wait a little, i'm sure the more knowledgeable contributors on this forum will soon chime in..

Congrats on your new truck! You are having that problem because for 2011 only the LUX comes with passive entry which allows you to just keep the key fob in your pocket. Keyless entry just means that you don't have to use an actual key, you can just press the unlock button on your fob. Keyless entry and Parametric Sensing Security System are two separate features. The second is the trucks alarm system and has nothing to do with entry. Sorry to have to break that to you. Your dealer has some explaining to do.
