I don't care for the change to a rotary knob from a shifter. There are times when I am driving that I rest my hand on the shifter. Also with the new console design we have lost that hole/space where you could place your phone.

I am going to miss that V-8.

I was going to say the same thing!!! My iPhone fits perfectly in that space! Plus I like a shifter, resting my hand on it makes me feel in control, granted it is all in my mind! But I do like the rear lights.
With that said, congrats, its a beautiful truck and sooner or later I will be upgrading to the new design.

The more I see the less I like. Land Rover is losing their image and in 10 years the only people driving these vehicles will be women. Everything seems to cater to the soccer mom these days. Its sad that we can't keep a Land Rover a Land Rover. Everything I hate on a Range Rover keeps getting added to a Land Rover. I understand evolving the product, but can we at least keep some Heritage??? Sorry, I had to vent...

I agree with you. It pains me to see how their products are changing so much (for the worse in my opinion). As it stands now, the new 14 LR4 and the Range Rover are the only Land Rovers I care for (that are sold here). I can accept the fact that Tata wants to bring in more money by offering "non-typical" Land Rover products (new Range Rover Sport, Evoque, ect.) but the LR4 is one in which I had anticipated sticking closely to the original recipe. I was shocked to learn that the low range transfer case would not be standard. Also, not sure why they went with the rotary knob, as I think the traditional lever or the joy stick found in the new Sport are way better choices. Otherwise, I love the new LR4 and I will probably end up buying one in the next couple years.

I just wish Land Rover would not mess with their traditional vehicles and keep them more for the traditional Land Rover demographic. If they want to introduce all new models to fill the void needed by the "bling bling" group then so be it, they have my blessing. Just don't mess with "real" Land Rovers.

I was actually just talking to my sales person last weekend about the availability on the 14 LR4 while our dealer was hosting a Land Rover off-road event. He told me that they were only initially allocated two trucks, and that they were not due in until the end of January. So I am pleasantly surprised to see that they are actually making there way to dealers now. Almost makes me want to go order a new one with heavy duty package!

I completely agree. My sentiments exactly! At least keep some model that is classic Land Rover.

We have seen some news about Land Rover going with three platforms, each catering to a different segment (wasn't one of them capability?), but I don't think they are going to have a Land Rover product that us purists/enthusiasts will be trading in our older rigs to buy. I love my 2013 LR4, and I likely plan to keep it long-term (reliability willing). I just would not be happy with a new Range Rover or Range Rover Sport. The 2014 LR4 hasn't changed much, but you can see the softer direction they are going and the catering to the masses. Don't get me wrong, I can see why Land Rover/Jaguar (Tata) is changing their game a bit from the old generation Land Rovers, as they are strategically catering to the people who buy Land Rovers right now. They could not make a living making a product just for "us". With that said, I do hope they at least hold onto some form of classic Land Rover capability and style amidst their future line up.

Depending on the future line up and look of the "Discovery" in a few years, I'd likely get a nicely restored Defender or just jump ship and get a Mercedes G wagon (as long as they don't make it look like a variant of the ML). I want a box on wheels.

For now, I'll stick with my 2013 LR4 and continue to customize.

Happy Holidays!

Regards, David

Well after a few days of driving the engine has more power than our 2008 lr3. There is some supercharger whine if you punch it but the engine is quieter vs our 2008. Some may miss the grumble of the v8, but I like the fact when you hit the gas to pass you can actually do that with this car vs the last one. I really am not of fan of the dial gear selector, and it's really crazy that the car just shuts off at stop lights. That will take some getting used to, but I can say I have not felt any lag with it. While it seems like the engine would be laggy, by the time your foot comes off the brake and hits the gas it's already ahead of you.

The design is change for the sake of change but in all fairness every manufacturer does this to an extent, especially last model years.

Congratulations on the car!

Can you turn off the Stop/Start feature like the newer BMWs? That would drive me insane!

I actually like the rotary gear selector. I dislike the toggle switch for Terrain Response. I really think it sucks they deleted the cubby to place my phone into! If you have 2 drinks in the cupholders, where the F are you supposed to place your phone? I really like the LED running lights, but dislike the new turn signal led in lieu of the old high beam assist. I really dislike the new tail lights. It looks as if someone just masked over some cheap black adhesive to the exterior of the assembly. Tacky! New front bumper / fog lights look clean and good to me.

I am also curious what you think of the new Meridian sound system. Is it the standard or the upgraded version?

Enjoy the truck bud!

The meridian sound system is ok, we have the lux so it's the highest they offer. We are still messing with the balance but to me it lacks the thump of the Hartman system. The sat radio really sounds like crap compared to the Bluetooth audio, very tinny. The sat radio does have a pretty cool rewind function, much like the add on radios do. The rotary knob sucks when you have to water bottles and are trying to reach the darn thing. There is a little space to drop your phone on the passenger side of the dial.

My 2013 has the same space on the passenger side of the dial (mine is a shift knob). Problem is, its nowhere deep enough and the phone flies out on any corner you take. The one that they deleted was to the right of the terrain response and probably twice as deep, if not more. That said, even with my 2013 I am not that impressed with the console layout. It probably has the least amount of storage pockets, etc for phones, ID badges, what have you of any vehicle I have owned in the last 10 years. The center armrest is no better with that super shallow tray that I try and cram an iPod and cord in. Price of having a cool box, I guess.

What would really be great is if they stuck the Diesel engine from your X5 in this that would make me jump all over it.
Curious to hear your thought about that engine in your X5
