Totally new to LR-looking for info on 2015 Reliability

Hi All,

I’m brand new to the world of land rovers to the point of I don’t know what the main differences are between the HSE/Autobiography models. I found a 2015 Autobiography that has the color combo which I love, it has 40k miles on it and is priced around $83K, and has a certified warranty till 2021.

I wanted to ask if there are any major issues that the 2015 MY has that I should be worried about. Having to warranty for 2 years give me some peace of mind, but I’m mainly worried about issues that my occur afterwards. Are there any engine or transmission failures that I should be weary of? Do you guys recommend any extended warranties? If so, should it be purchased through to dealer, and do you know what they approximately cost? Sorry for the newbies question, and thank you very much in advance .

I believe the certification is for two years and up to 100,000 miles (verify this). If you intend on keeping past the certification time and or miles, I would highly suggest that you get the extended warranty (very Pricey).

It's not just the trans & engine, it could be your suspension or multiple other issues that can and will cost you thousands to repair. Also, non-warrantied costs like Brake pads and rotors will easily set you back thousands. These vehicles are very expensive to maintain. I have had 6 of them through the years and yes they have become more reliable but you are buying one that has 40,000 miles on it. My experience is that most problems start around 75,000 miles and are very costly. I do suggest that you contact a service manager at a local Land Rover dealership and interview him /her about the possible problems and costs that may arise. Make an educated decision and not just on how nice this vehicle looks and rides, because they do look awesome and the ride is incredible, not mentioning the power. Totally awesome & totally expensive. As far as the trim options... there is an HSE which is a six-cylinder supercharged engine and could range from base options to totally loaded. Horsepower is either 340 or 360. Then you have the Supercharged trim which designates it as an 8 cylinder engine that has 510 horsepower ( I have only owned this trim and the power is incredible). The Autobiography Trim is the same engine as the 8 cylinder engine with 510hp but the interior and the wheels are more of a premium product.
Personally, I have enjoyed the lavishness of these very nice vehicles over the years but as of late I am getting tired of the of the eliteness of the service & maintenance costs. Also, I am not aware of your current vehicle... Premium fuel for this baby which is more $$$$. If money is not an issue and you will not cringe at the maintenance cost then you should pull the trigger on one, but I would buy one with fewer miles.

The m you greatly for all that information! So the crazy thing is, looking at land rovers certified search, almost all of the Autobiography trims available have around the same mileage and are around the same price. I do plan on getting an extended warranty (not sure how much it is, do you have any ballpark figures?) But if trouble doesn’t appear till 25k, I’m not too worried as long as it’s not major. Are there any recalls I should look out for? Currently I have a Panamera 4S, the range is going to be for the wife. Since we use public transport for work, the cars are mainly driven on the weekends, so it will take us a while to put miles on the car. Thank you again!!

Going to test drive it in the morning and will let you know for sure. Also, just wanted to say, I’m not worried about maintenance costs because that’s a given. I’m just worried about major malfunctions/repairs, are there any known major issues I should keep an eye out for?

Awesome, that you will only use the SUV for weekends you should be fine. I am not sure of the cost of the extended warranty because I have purchased all of mine new. But I would guess 4k to 5k from the Stealership. I would only buy from them when it comes to these elite vehicles.

I have had good luck prior to 75K. I would talk to a service manager at a different dealership than the one that you are shopping at. Just to make sure that there is no conflict of interest. If this suv has been taken care of you will love the ride and how it drives. Have fun and make an educated decision.

Hey, thanks for following up. We ended up making the purchase. The wife loved it, I loved it, the color combo is what really sold us on this particular car because we just couldn’t find anything else within a few hundred miles of us with the same colors.
