You hate to hear these stories...I was at the dealer picking up my LR4 from service. (Leaking valve cover gasket & new spark plugs) It was still being washed so I was wandering around the showroom. I noticed a couple that just agreed to buy the rather sharp looking D5 on the showroom floor. I also saw her hand was bandaged as they walked out. Then the salesperson shared this terrible story with me. They were up in Maine on vacation, driving at night in their LR4 on a 2-lane road. Coming around a bend they were hit head-on. The LR4 driver was fine but the woman broke a few fingers as she reached out before impact and the air bag hit her hand. Sadly the couple in the other car did not survive. First responders commented that the LR4 definitely saved their lives.

They must have suffered some type of head trauma though to be closing a deal on a D5.

I'm sure they got more of a discount than we got on our LR4's. And they picked a really nice D5. Black HSE Lux with titanium wheels, HD pack, full size spare, roof rails, trailer hitch, 4-zone AC. I have to admit the D5 is slowly growing on me. Maybe it's because it's tax return time and I use my LR4 for work and it's fully depreciated.

LR4 is very safe.
This is my 2011 LR4 when Honda Odyssey driver run the red light and hit our 2 year old LR4 head on.
My wife and kids were fine but LR4 was totaled. At collision center we were told that body on frame construction saved my family.
Too bad Land Rover dose not make LR4 any more. We are keeping our current 2013 LR4 forever.

It's actually an "integrated body on frame" which is not the same and far superior to basic body on frame. Most "suvs" you see today, are actually just a car in an engineering sense because there is no frame but rather a shell that is the body. In some ways they are more protecting that a classic body on frame. You can't really say a full size truck is "safer" because of the frame because it's mainly that it's generally larger than whatever would hit it.

The LR3/4/RRS all have an actual ladder frame but also the crossover's unibody. This is part of why it's heavy because is ha both, sort of redundant.

This is also why they are very stiff off road with all doors functioning perfectly even during total flex moves like diagonal 2 wheels off the ground.

Safety from collisions is one of the reasons I love these things. The Disco 1 and 2 were no where near the safety level and actually pretty bad in rollover crashes.

Hi jwest,
It was my mistake when typing. I meant integrated body on frame. Thanks for catching my mistake.

Wouldn't help you this filing anyway... ;) You can do mileage at a good rate though. My trip this winter gives me over $3000 deduction next year!
