Me and my father-in-law went to tackle fixing a timing chain issue on my wife's 2016 V6 LR4. I don't have much mechanical knowledge, but FIL was fairly confident with his knowledge that we could slowly tackle the project.

Everything went smooth. 1 tensioner had malfunctioned, but we replaced everything.

Chains on, everything lined up and all put back together. However, over the long time it took to rebuild, we forgot to remove the cam lock and attempted a startup. No bad sounds, no grinding, nothing that screamed we did something wrong, just a split second of a crank attempt and then nothing. Upon looking everything over we find the lock (little nub that goes into the gear has bend in it once removed), hit ourselves over the head a few times, and start checking things.

Long story short, the crankshaft will not complete a rotation anymore, even after removing all chains. Just rotates till full stop, and we're a bit lost on next steps. We're willing to strip down a bit more but it seems we're close to needing to remove the whole engine or more to resolve the issue. Any advice?

With the chains off. A piston may be hitting a valve.
Remove the camshafts and see if you can turn the crank a couple revolutions.
