Thoughts on 2021 Bronco as LR4 replacement?

It's a purpose built vehicle. Let concerned about the # of cylinders. Agree, if you are looking for tow capacity, this is disappointing for sure. I guess you just can't have it all. pick your poision.

Wondering how those old broncos stacked up in hp and torque? Long day so I am too lazy to look it up.

I’m not sure about stock specs on the ‘73 or ‘77, but my brothers’ vehicles aren’t stock.
‘73 has 700HP and 825ft lbs of Torque
‘77 has 450HP and 500 ft lbs of Torque

Beasts.

The upcoming Bronco is based on the current Ford Australia-designed platform that is currently used for
the Ford Ranger pick-up as sold here in Oz, as well as for the Ford Everest 4WD SUV - an Explorer-sized
SUV but tougher. Both built in Thailand for our market. The Ranger is the 2nd biggest seller in our market, behind only the equivalent Toyota pick-up ( known as a"Ute or Utility" here) Ranger is one full size down from the F150 that is not sold here. The Bronco should have very good offroad ability based on that platform. Ford U.S. should at least offer the Ranger's 3.2 liter 5 cyl. turbo diesel. It's cheaper than the Ecoboost 2.0 liter diesel as used in our Ranger Raptor, but a bit down on power & torque. Most guys prefer the bigger diesel. Gas engines are too thirsty for our long range offroad touring. No gas stations in our deserts. Range is king!
Unfortunately the Bronco will not be sold here as they don't intend building it in right hand drive, as least
for the foreseable future and they would HAVE to offer a diesel option for it to succeed. The Toyota FJ failed here as it had no diesel option, even though it was very capable offroad.
Our Rangers can tow 3500kgs. (Raptor only 2500) & carry well over 1000kgs. in the tray. It must be the
2.7 liter gas engine that's the limiting factor for towing with the Bronco.
I would not consider the Bronco over my D4 3.0 liter TDV6, even with a diesel. In my opinion the D3/D4
is the finest all-round, all-purpose SUV ever designed. The new Defender should have been a direct replacement for the D4 in size & engine options.

... I agree there will be many Broncos on the road in 2021/2022, some with ugly modifications just like Jeep, but I still liked the Jeep and bought one (wife hated it). If someone is looking for high-class refinement, the Bronco probably won't be it. Ha ha.
Do you think they're already making Punisher spare tire covers for it? :D

although the markets for each vehicle are not exactly the same, certainly the entrenched Land Rover crowd using a Defender for off road have to be silently bemoaning all the features this Bronco has for off-roading. The most important features are cost of ownership and ease to work on. Looks like Ford set this up to be a DIY dream. Meanwhile, lucky8, with vehicle in hand is working night and day trying to figure out how to make a front bumper...

So, I hear people talking about the price of the vehicle as an advantage for Ford. It's not the price that the huge advantage, it's going to be the accessories, the maintenance and the repairs that will be the huge savings.

If you want an off road vehicle and are between a Defender and a Bronco, there's really not much of a choice here. Even if money is no issue, which would would you rather be broke down with 20 miles in to capitol reef?
I’m sure the aftermarket will end up very different, but what features are defender owners bemoaning? Front locker and a disconnectable sway bar? Ok, those are great if you’re rock crawling. Not really what the Defender is meant for. I’ve been through Capitol Reef several times in my 3, but would never go in either of the Broncos I’ve owned. I don’t think any modern vehicle is any harder or easier to work on, as long as you have the means to diagnose it. There’s no reason to believe that either of these vehicles won’t have a robust GapTools type of scan tool.

I plan on keeping my LR3 for at least another 8-10 years, at which point I may look first at a used 2020 defender. That being said, the new Bronco looks awesome and should give Jeep a run for its money.

Ill just say this - the new Bronco does have appeal. However, I lost a friend to the original - he was on the highway at night and swerved to avoid a tire left on the road. The car flipped. Short wheelbase is short wheelbase - be warned.

I don't understand why they didn't make the new Bronco tow more. Its out of consideration until it can tow 7k.

No way... Rather buy a new Discovery. Better yet the new Defender. And of course, the "one day you'll be mine" RRS SC SV...
