I've owned my Discovery since 2003. 5 years ago the engine overheated and died. I had antifreeze in the engine. I was told I needed to replace the engine. It's been sitting since. Does it make sense to put in a rebuilt engine as compared to installing a brand new engine? My desire is to get it back up and running and then give it to my boys in a couple of years when they start driving. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Your call really on the rebuild versus replacement, Some Short blocks are not that expensive and can be had fairly cheaply. I know Nathan (in my signature) does this a lot with Rovers. Overheating is the worst thing that can be done on an aluminum engine.

Joey:

Thanks for your reply. Based on your response, I'm interpreting that a rebuilt works about as good as a new engine. Thus, it's less money and still a good solution to getting my 03 Disco back on the road.

That would be my recommendation.

I've noticed several companies that supply rebuilt engines for a 2003 Discovery. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best supplier providing the best quality rebuilds?
