I bought a 2018 Discovery Sport 2.0 (gasoline) that had 120k miles with known issues. Check engine light was on for a cylinder #2 misfire. It will start up and drive just as well as you would expect for one dead cylinder and I’m thinking its maybe a coil pack or plugs are due for a change. No bad noises from engine or smoke from exhaust. I think it is pretty obvious that my initial assessment was wrong or i wouldnt be posting a question here…
First thing i find is the #2 plug was washed clean by fuel and clearly not firing.
I go ahead and do a compression test and cylinders 1,2,&3 only have about 25 psi. Cylinder 4 gives me just under 200 psi.
I then do a lead down test and cylinders 1 & 3 have very minimal leakage and are well within acceptable limits. Cylinders 2 & 4 however failed miserably and only held a few PSI. Not yet able to determine where the air is escaping.
Pulled timing chain cover and didnt see anything obvious.
Looking for some advice on what else i might look at before pulling the head off.
