2010 LR4 V8 with 240k miles. Trying to get CA smog, but the catalytic monitor won't get to ready state, so it won't pass smog (the other two monitors do pass - O2 and Evap). Injectors were replaced last year and the fuel trims look ok (within +/- 4%).

1) anyone have this issue?
2) is there a 'drive cycle' I need to follow?
3) should I replace the O2 sensors (all 4) as they are still original?

Thanks for any advice - love this truck and want to keep it going.

Yes, the cats need to go through certain cycles before they are "Ready".
I am not sure what he specifics are.

usual daily driving, a couple starts per day, drive over 50mph for at least part of those drives. allow to cool down between drives.
do this for 3-4 days and all should be set.

have you done any work recently? specifically replacing or disconnecting the battery? reset or cleared codes/CEL?
this is usually the only time that readiness is a problem.

do you have a check engine light illuminated on the dash?

No CEL, no stored codes and the O2 sensors seem to test fine. I've been driving for over 200 miles, all types of driving, and can't seem to get this third monitor set. The other two are ready for testing.

I did find a 'Long drive cycle test' in a service manual for a Jag XK V8 with same engine. It suggests the following test:
1. Accelerate to 55 mph in 5th gear and cruise for 2 min with engine RPM at or above 1800
2. Lift of the throttle and allow the vehicle to decelerate until the engine speed is less than 1000rpm
3. Stop the vehicle
4. Release brake, allow the vehicle to move with no throttle for 1 min
5. Test is now complete

I'll try this test later today, but has anyone had to jump through this type of hoop before?

Also, I've also heard to try something called CataClean? Anyone with experience?

give that drive cycle a try.

no idea what Cataclean is, but dont use it....yet. no need to try and fix a problem that doesn't exist. if the cats weren't working effectively, you would get a CEL.
im suprised to hear that 200 miles isnt enough to set readiness, but some cars do take longer than others.

I had a code for the downstream o2 sensor failure on the passenger side and the passenger side cat failure code as well. I poured cataclean in and after driving 150 miles the light came off. I'm not usually one to fall for those snake oil miracles in a can gimmicks, but i figured $23.99 is a small price to pay for a chance. So far it worked, mind you i had the code every day for the past 3 weeks and now a day after the cataclean its off.

I'm wondering if OP ever solved this as I am currently in this state.

2013 LR4. No CEL has ever gone off.
Took it in for inspect (PA) and they said the MAP sensor went bad DURING the emissions test... suspicious. They replaced it and said they couldn't get the monitors to reset. They said this happens all the time on DII but never seen it on DIV.
I've now driven over 800 miles and they won't reset (still no CEL).
It's the EGR, O2's and Evap that won't get to "ready."
So far I have read online to try replacing fuel cap and thermostat (maybe engine not getting up to temp) which I ordered.
Help!

How did they determine it was the MAP sensor that went bad during the test? That does sound suspicious. Not sure what the EGR monitor is (I assume you have a petrol car, and I believe EGR is only on the diesel).

Any codes?

For those that come across this issue where you've driven over 100 miles after clearing codes, the Catalytic Monitor and O2 Monitor reads "INC" (incomplete) instead of "RDY" or Ready, there's a solution.

My trusted smog guy for over 20 years told me the easiest way to get it ready is to drive it for at least 100 miles AND drive it above 2k rpms for 10-15 minutes. I tried driving at night down the highway manually shifting and it sucks. The next morning, my trick was to warm it up, drive it around the block, park it in my driveway without turning off the engine, wedge a brick or whatever on the accelerator while in (P) at 2500 rpms, wait 10-15 minutes or whenever the code reader reads "Ready". After it reads "Ready", smog it.

Thanks, worth a shot.
No codes. No cel.
I think they fried something when they were testing the car. It's very strange. Internet research is oddly failing me on this one. Doesn't seem to happen to LR4s.

I haven't been able to find readiness monitors in IID tool... Where do you look for those?
