So, the CEL from my earlier post went off...thats the good news...

The bad news... Yesterday on my way home from work my '06 LR3 HSE started to make a grinding noise. Was rather quite at first, but after a mile or so became horrific sounding. Didnt really matter if I was braking or coasting in nuetral. I pulled over to see if anything was apparent visually. Everything looked fine, but then again I am not a mechanic. Nursed her home and headed off to the dealer this morning. Same occurence...although this time after a few miles in to the trip the noise disappeared completeley, even at 70 mph on the highway. Not that I want there to be something wrong with her, just wish it would have been occuring in the service department this morning. I mentioned to him that one of my kids pushed the downhill assist button a couple days ago while we were driving. We were only going about 15mph but it sure made some funny noises. Never used it before, is that normal?

Anyone have any thoughts as to what it could be?

Sounds like a wheel bearing failing. Is it noisier when taking a corner? From which area of the rig does the sounds come from (front, rear, left right)?

A bit noisier. Not sure. I was alone and looked kinda silly with my head hanging out the window. It will only make the noise while moving. I am pretty sure its coming from the front.

Thanks a bunch. I will report back the findings when I hear back from the service department. Any thoughts on what that might cost?

If just replacing the bad one it wont be too bad. Maybe $150 at the dealer

Thanks for your help guys...

Was the right front wheel bearing - $490.00
is that way out of line? Speaking of, they are also realigning the wheels included in that price.

Also replacing the left hand outer tie rod end for addl $270.

All in all i'm not b!tching. Considering how horrific that noise was, seems like a bargain.
