bad lower ball joint lead to howling?

Sounds pretty involved but probably a lot better than paying a mechanic. A diesel heater would go a long ways to warm everything up. I bought a Chinese version with automatic elevation adjustments for $110 and its pretty amazing what it can do for the cost.

Also, the second side went *much* faster as I didn't have to pause to go watch videos for how to hammer the hub out of the knuckle. I printed out the relevant pages from the workshop manual and just followed along.

I need to get that ball joint separator to get my lower ball joint out. How was it to put the new one in?

I replace the whole arms, not just the ball joint. You have to get the angle just right to get the arm in there to clear the axle. I could not get the ball joint to release from the knuckle without the separator tool. Not my crappy pickle fork, nor whacking the knuckle with a mallet.

If you have more time than money, or like a challenge. Pull the whole arm and replace the bushings and ball joint.

If you just want to get back on the road, buy a whole new arm.
