I just got my LR tow hitch yesterday(new from Ebay for $275 shipped) and I'm so surprised that a littel unit like that can tow up to 7700lbs. Pretty cool unit. My question is that for the 7 seater LR3's, the left rear compartment is supposed to be the storage area for the tow hitch, but when I look in there, there is space but there are alot of, what looks like alum. hydraulic lines for the suspension in there, and there is no tie down strap(per car manuel) to hold the hitch in place. Has anybody bought one and stowed it yet? How did you do it? It's not a big deal, it can sit in the garage if I can't stow it. Doesn't take up much space, hehe.

Also, now the next step is the wiring harness, which I don't think I can trust myself to install. Does anyone know how much the dealers charge to do the work?

Thanks ahead of time.

For the wiring harness I would suggest going to your local travel trailer dealer - they install customer wiring harness jobs every day, and they are often much cheaper than your local LR dealer. They did a great job on my install!

Land Rover has a wiring harness that seems pretty easy to install. I suggest you use that one even if you have someone else install it.

That's what I was referring to.

Whats your config? 5 seater or 7?
The 5 seaters should be able to store the hitch underneath the cargo area hatch.
If you gotta 7 seater w/o tow.. good question.
My 7 seater with factory tow does have a place to store the hitch in the left access panel.
I do not have the wiring harness but I heard that it is a bit whack.

racingdc,
I am in the same boat you are. I bought the hitch later but just had the dealer install it since I had a bunch of credit from my trade in. My left compartment didn't have the space so the thing lives on a shelf in the garage. Truth is I rarely use it. I wouldn't like to have it sitting in the car seeing as it would easily take someones head off in an accident. Maybe a nice custom tie down in that compartment would fit the bill but carefull with those aluminum pipes you speak of. They go to your rear a/c system and with the heater on, get really really really hot. Take care

Freeflytim: I have a 7 seater. Interesting, I guess they don't prep every car the same way, Eventhough, it does say it in the manual that there is a storage area with tie downs.

Nomad: Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I wouldn't want that thing flying out and causing more damage, in case of an accident. I don't know when I'll ever use it, giving I don't have anything that needs to be towed(boat, trailer, etc...) But, for the price, I couldn't pass it up, b/c I know when I do need it, going to the dealer and plopping down $400+ dollars for one will make me cringe, hehe.

As well I'm open to ANY suggestions for storing the thing in the vehicle. This isn't something that I like to leave at home. Half the time I've needed a hitch in the past has been when I don't expect it. (help someone move a boat who is taking me out, backing a trailer out of my way, planning a trip in someone else's car who has problems and we take mine instead, etc...)

I end up just leaving the hitch receiver on my LR3 since it locks anyway. However the hitch part is a handful...haven't figured any place to put that yet.

I have the 7 seater...my lower right storage bin is full with my jack setup and some road flares I threw in there. The left lower storage can only hold soft things (first aid kit, cargo net) because of the rear a/c lines. The two upper bins are big enough for a couple bags of peanuts, that's about it (okay, half kidding, I keep my jumper cables in there).

Thoughts?
